About Me

Hi, my name is Siddharth. I am presently a Research Scientist at the Koita Centre for Digital Health (Ashoka University) and a Visiting Researcher at Microsoft Research India, working with Dr. Mohit Jain & Dr. Sunayana Sitaram.

I completed my PhD from the Dept. of Computer Science & Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, working on auditing human-facing AI platforms like Face Recognition Systems and e-commerce platforms to identify and mitigate biases against socially salient groups, supervised by Prof. Animesh Mukherjee.

Prior to that I was a Technical Project Lead at Huawei Technologies, India, working with the Cloud & AI team on Big Databases, focusing on query optimization and database connectors.

I completed my M.Tech(Research) degree from Dept of CDS, IISc, Bengaluru, India. During my time at IISc, I was associated with DREAM Lab, working on distributed graph algorithms. I also received the Microsoft Data Science Fellowship for the duration of my degree.

I completed my B.Tech in Computer Science and Engg in 2016 from Tezpur Central University, Tezpur, Assam, India.

I play football and volleyball and am a huge supporter of Manchester United FC. I like photography, reading books and writing poetry. Albert Camus, Ruskin Bond and Khaled Hosseini are some of the authors whose works I love.

June 2026: I successfully defended my PhD thesis, “Auditing and Mitigating Biases in Face Recognition and Gender Analyzer Systems” from the Dept. of CSE, IIT Kharagpur. Excited for what’s next!
Feb 2026: I have joined KCDH (Ashoka University) as a Research Scientist and Microsoft Research India as a Visiting Researcher on a project to evaluate V2DD tools for the medical domain, and will be based out of Bangalore for the foreseeable future!
February 2024 [Pinned]: I am starting an Indian Machine Learning Reading Group with Kishalay Das that will be hosted online once a week. Hoping to promote Indian researchers’ work from top conferences/journals amongst the community. Do reach out if interested to present/attend!
